Roadheaders - tunnel miners

Sandvik roadheaders are advanced, self-propelled, extremely powerful rock-cutting machines designed to excavate roadways, tunnels and chambers continuously without using explosives. Powered electro-hydraulically, they emit no fumes and are used extensively in coal mining, mineral mining and underground construction projects, where their ability to excavate the desired profile without causing harmful vibrations is highly valued for both environmental and safety reasons.
The roadheader family also includes separate, multi-purpose hydraulic cutting heads for mounting on excavators.

Sandvik MT-series roadheaders for construction are equipped with powerful, geometrically optimized, transverse cutter heads proven to give the best cutting performance in a wide range of rock formations. Subway tunnels, road tunnels, shaft sinking, rehabilitation of existing tunnels and excavation of underground caverns are just a few examples where these machines have demonstrated their great flexibility.

With aggressive, geometrically optimized, transverse cutting structures, tried and tested on some of the world’s most rugged mining and tunneling machines, they are efficient, multi-purpose tools for various applications including production, scaling, tunnel rehabilitation, roadway levelling, trenching and demolition.
